Gutonhof – Tradition and passion

With us, your family will enjoy genuine hospitality, a deep connection to nature, and unforgettable moments together in the heart of the Dolomites.

Five hearts, one home – that’s us. Our family lives and works together on our traditional mountain farm, nestled in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are united by our love for nature, the joy of being outdoors, and a deep connection to the mountains – and we are happiest when we can share this way of life with our guests.

With experience, passion, and a smile as genuine as our mountain air, Mom and Dad run the farm. At their side are our three grown children – sporty, dynamic, and deeply rooted in the land.

Heidi
is the heart and soul of the house – always ready to listen, with a special touch for everything that makes the farm feel like home.

Werner
is the rock of the family. With unshakable calm and a sharp focus on what truly matters, he manages our mountain farm with great pride and professionalism.

My Journey as a Skier
I grew up in Selva di Val Gardena, a place where winter sports are an essential part of everyday life. Like many children in the valley, I dreamed early on of becoming a successful ski racer. By age three, I was already on skis, bravely tackling the steepest slopes near my home.

At nine, I joined the Ski Club Gardena – marking the start of my athletic journey. At fourteen, I was honoured to be a forerunner for the famous Saslong downhill, bravely navigating the feared “Camel Humps” and catching the eye of national coaches. Two years later, I joined the Italian national team and the Carabinieri sports group.

After two strong seasons in the Europa Cup – including a race victory – I made the leap to the Italian World Cup team in 1987. That year, I proudly earned my first World Cup podium with a third place in Leukerbad, alongside teammates Maier and Piantanida.

My career wasn’t without challenges. Injuries tested my resilience, but after several surgeries, I made a powerful comeback in 1992.

In the years that followed, I celebrated key victories, including two Super-G World Cup wins in Garmisch and Lillehammer, plus 11 more podium finishes. Sharing the podium with legends like Luc Alphand, Marc Girardelli, and Hermann Maier was a true honor.

I competed in three World Championships and two Olympic Games. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, I narrowly missed a medal with a fifth-place finish – one of the biggest disappointments of my career, yet a moment I still look back on with pride.

I ended my professional career in 1999, but my passion for skiing continues to this day.

I actively collaborate with my longtime partner HEAD on the development of ski boots and in the scouting of young talents.

In addition, I am a member of the Val Gardena World Cup Organizing Committee, contributing each year to the successful staging of the legendary Saslong downhill races. Looking ahead, I’m deeply committed to the sustainable planning and organization of the 2031 Alpine Ski World Championships here in Val Gardena — a responsibility I embrace with passion and pride.
